Nora Armani Performs at AUA

YEREVAN, Armenia — On July 27, the American University of Armenia (AUA) was pleased to host actress, voice artist, and filmmaker Nora Armani for a captivating one-person show — Back on the Couch with Nora Armani. 

Armani’s one-person show performed on tour internationally, most recently in New York, Toronto, and Montreal, is a sequel to her On the Couch with Nora Armani. It is a journey through Armani’s family and personal stories from pre-1915 Anatolian summers to Nasser’s Egypt to the present told through song, dance, nostalgia, and humor. Armani takes her audience on a journey of self-discovery filled with comical anecdotes, bittersweet memories, life, and love. An award-winning actress and filmmaker with extensive international stage and screen credits, Armani was in Armenia this summer, teaching a course at AUA. 

As Armani’s special contribution to the AUA community, admission to the performance was free and open to the public. “What a treat being able to see and hear Nora Armani on stage at the AUA. She made us laugh and think with her wit, creativity, and original style, as she retold history through the richness of her many journeys,” remarked Dr. Sharistan Melkonian, dean of General Education. “In addition to the AUA community having this unique opportunity to see her on stage, AUA students were able to take a course with Nora this summer, exploring the world of voice and presence.” Students in Armani’s course titled “Presence. Finding Your Voice” eagerly assisted her with staging the performance. 

Armani’s recent stage credits include “Six Characters in Search of an Author” by Priandello, “Terrorism” by Presnyakov Brothers (both in New York), and “Mercedes” by Anush Aslibekyan (in Armenia). Her TV and film credits include “The Blacklist: Redemption, Golden Boy, Casualty (BBC),” “The Friends (EG TV);” and films “La Nouvelle Eve,” “Voisin Voisine,” “Last Station,” “Labyrinth,” “Bourek,” “Good Funk,” “I am Gitmo,” “Lazy People,” “Hungry,” “Moving Stories,” and most recently, “Absolute Dominion” for Netflix directed by Lexi Alexander.
